Riga’s Museum of Decorative Arts and Design occupies the former St George’s Church. Its medieval masonry and seventeenth-century warehouse timbers frame Latvian decorative arts and design from the late nineteenth century onward.
Guide preview
The massive timber supports inside Riga’s Museum of Decorative Arts and Design were not made for a modern gallery. They belong to an earlier life of the building, when the former St George’s Church was divided into storehouses. Today the timbers stand beside Latvian textiles, ceramics and design, connecting a medieval shell with objects made for changing ways of life.
